Battle Reports: Last Minute Welsh Practice at Firestorm – 9th May, & bonus game from the Hobbit

Firestorm ran another 50pt Masters format event as a WTC fundraiser and with the Welsh Masters is less than a week away so off I went with the usual team CAT FACE members for some fun. Being Masters format there would obviously be some ADR going on, and as I didn’t want to be left out of all the fun I took Rasheth and pMakeda because they’re on the ADR list… from July, oh. Derp, I need to stop doing wierd list things like that but tbh I really wanted to play something drastically different before the Welsh and getting some playtime with next season ADR casters is killing two birds with one stone.

My lists for the day would be:

Dominar Rasheth (*5pts) – Chain Gang T4
* Basilisk Krea (4pts)
* Titan Gladiator (7pts)
* Titan Sentry (8pts)
* Titan Sentry (8pts)
Gatormen Posse (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Venators Reivers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
* Venators Reiver Officer & Standard (2pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Paingiver Task Master (2pts)

The Rasheth list is a concept test for me to see how well Reivers work with him. With Rasheth being ADR from July and the gun bugs coming out at some point after that I figured now would be a good time to test out Rasheth gunlines. I have also been enjoying Reivers recently, as they’re part of one of the eXerxis lists i’ve been messing around with.

Archdomina Makeda (*5pts)
* Cyclops Shaman (5pts)
* Archidon (7pts)
* Molik Karn (11pts)
* Titan Gladiator (8pts)
Cataphract Cetrati (Leader and 5 Grunts) (11pts)
Nihilators (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)
Mortitheurge Willbreaker (2pts)

In all honesty I didn’t put much thought into the pMakeda list, it is just a collection of models/units that work well with her. Only thing of note is the Shaman, as by the look of things pMak is likely to be next seasons Cryx drop.

Round 1 – Martyn Jenkins

Battle Reports: Bristol Warmachine Bash – April 12th

First 50pt event at Bristol Independant Gaming. Run once again by Chris Roberts with Ryan acting as his lovely assitant Hobbit and standin player. Orginally the event was expected at a full sixteen but due to some last minute (7am) drops we ended up down to twelve, sadness :(.

Casters for the day were eXerxis and Mordikaar as I need to relearn how to play a ‘normal’ game and ‘normal’ caster rather than just Fisting everything I come across. I swear that list has made me worse and worse as a player.

Game 1 – Guy Dawe

ADR at Firestorm, March 7th

So on March the 7th Firestorm ran a Masters event to give people the chance to try out ADR. Given as I hadn’t been to the new Firestorm and wanted to play some games. I’d been thinking about lists for a good while after SmogCon and leading up to this event and was pretty sure i’d run at least Xerxis2 and maybe Mordikaar or anything else, nope. The day before, screw all the plans, lets Naaresh and Mordikaar ADR, just steal MartinH’s lists easy!

Void Seer Mordikaar (*5pts)
* Basilisk Drake (4pts)
* Basilisk Krea (4pts)
* Tiberion (11pts)
Bloodrunners (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Cataphract Cetrati (Leader and 5 Grunts) (11pts)
* Tyrant Vorkesh (3pts)
Nihilators (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer (3pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Mortitheurge Willbreaker (2pts)

Specialists:
* Despoiler (10pts)
Cataphract Incindiarii (Leader and 3 Grunts) (6pts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)
Feralgeist (1pts)
Void Spirit (2pts)

WTC tryouts and BIG Tides of War

<wall of text post as I was too lazy/busy/forgot to take pictures, sorry!>

<also an extremly long post>

Another busy weekend of gaming just gone. First there was the tryouts for the English WTC team on the 24th up in Stockport. Followed by Bristol Indepentant Gamings first WmH tournament Tides of War Winter.

Starting with the WTC tryouts, once again myself and my best hobbit friend Ryan (we’re inseparable) went up to Stockport. Ryan was on the selection commitee and I had managed to qualify for the tryouts. Our weekend started early on Friday as we decided to spend the morning/afternoon driving up and chilling before getting some games in during the evening.

So my lists for the tryouts were the Fist (no surprise) and a Xerxis2 list I’d made for the lulz.

New Year, SR/Masters 2015, ADR & Wales…

Happy New Year!

I only realise now that I should have written year of WmH post for the end of 2014 but oh well, you can have one now.

So 2014 was a great WmH year for me, lots of fun tournaments and people and… this is boring. Basically, I played the Fist of Halaak for the entire year adding more and more cataphracts until my Fistcuit tin (as people call it now) could hold no more. I Fisted and Fisted and Fisted some more until I got locked into my other lists and lost….

The new year will give me a fresh start so I can start playing different lists/casters from usual.

Warlords/Immortals 50pt Steamroller 2nd August

Orginally I wasn’t too sure if I could make this one (weekend after the ETC) but after checking with Ryan who was also interested we just went for it. The events in Walsall have always been fun and the drive isn’t that bad. If only they could do something about their start time of 9am.

Shoes are overrated

WMH 35pt @ Firestorm 25th Jan

Firestorm games ran their first Steamroller 2014 event on Saturday. It was 2 list 35pts and Deathclock, 45minutes.

I went up with a bunch of people from my club Pigmar. After Lance helpfully picked everyone up we headed over to Cardiff for breakfast and some games!

My lists:

List 1
Makeda and the Exalted Court (*2pts)
* Basilisk Krea (4pts)
* Molik Karn (11pts)
* Titan Gladiator (8pts)
Gatormen Posse (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)
Paingiver Task Master (2pts)

List 2
Chain Gang – T4
Dominar Rasheth (*5pts)
* Titan Gladiator (7pt)
* Titan Sentry (8pts)
* Titan Sentry (8pts)
Gatormen Posse (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Paingiver Task Master (2pts)

Makeda3 is a Warlock that I want some more playtime with, having just picked her up, so I took her for the experience and the fun factor and I haven’t taken Rasheth in a while so I dragged him along as well.

Played four games, all of them with Makeda3 once I realised that it wasn’t divide and conquer.

Game 1 was against Alun Evans using Harbringer. Alun is a great guy and i’ve never played against Harby before so I was expecting a fun game and a good learning experience. The scenario was Balance of Power. I ended up loosing the game to Assassination. What i’ve taken away from this game is that I really need to force as many Martydooms as possible in order to break through, also I totally forgot that the Book could negate spells effectively making Makeda3 useless as what would normally have been an amazing chain of 15 infantry kills for her just couldn’t get started. I don’t think i’ll be using Mak3 against Menoth in general due to their denial, playing this game was worth it for the learning experience.

Game 2 was Ben Driscoll with the Vlad3 theme force, all the horses! It was Outflank and I won the roll. I ran/charged up as far as I could go trying to get as much board space before he started his inevitable charge. Unfortunatley in Bens first turn he moved one unit of Cav to far forward allowing me to get a Molik sidestep into Drago who was nearby. I had run Makeda3 into melee with Drago beforehand to get the boosted damage and Molik ended up taking out Drago, Markov and an Uhlan putting me way up at the start. I won on Scenario. Odd game, I was expecting to have either Molik or my Gladiator destroyed by the Vlad3 Feat and then grind my way back with Makeda3 but the misplacement let me take too much of his force for him to recover from.

Game 3 was Peter Hillard, also Khador and playing pIrusk. It was Into the Breach, Ben won the roll and went first deploying in front of the zone so I matched him. I think we both ignored the flag. On his turn two he Feated and jammed me with silly DEF19 Kayazy and brought up his Winterguard Infantry for his turn3. Thanks to his Feat I managed to only kill 2 Kayazy and stay jammed, thankfully I was still contesting the zone. On this turn3 he charged five Kayazy into Makeda3 with four transfers, taking her down to 9 boxes. Failing to kill her I cut for Fury and Feated clearing out the Kayazy around me thanks to a Krea animus and an Eliminator. Molik with Feat just about managed to clear out all the contesting Infantry in the zone so I could start dominating, with Makeda camped on five Fury. From there I was able to dominate while standing on a hill and benefitting from a Krea Animus. Ben wasn’t able to throw enough stuff into the zone to continuously stop me and I won on Scenario. I think Bens decision to try and kill Makeda3 when I was camping 4 was a bit hopeful even if it did do a lot of damage to my beasts, I was expecting him to kill all my paingivers. Also in hindsight I should have had Makeda3 further forward if possible, or my army more spread out as I was unable to Ground Zero my stuff clear when he jammed due to it being too clustered.

Game 4 was against Rhys Phillips playing Rahn and Incursion.  I got yanked out and killed :(. I wasn’t too certain what to do going into that game but talking to Rhys afterwards I should have played more conservative and just let him take my Gladiator or Molik with his Feat instead of trying tank it all with Mak. Also Rasheth would have been the better choice with Castigate and Agonizers stopping Arc Nodes.

I finished the game 2-2 and 7th overall. Good finish.

So after 8 games with Makeda3 i’ve only won by Scenario and lost by Assassination. I’ll have to find a way to enhance the scenario play when I build up to 50pts.
