ADR at Firestorm, March 7th

So on March the 7th Firestorm ran a Masters event to give people the chance to try out ADR. Given as I hadn’t been to the new Firestorm and wanted to play some games. I’d been thinking about lists for a good while after SmogCon and leading up to this event and was pretty sure i’d run at least Xerxis2 and maybe Mordikaar or anything else, nope. The day before, screw all the plans, lets Naaresh and Mordikaar ADR, just steal MartinH’s lists easy!

Void Seer Mordikaar (*5pts)
* Basilisk Drake (4pts)
* Basilisk Krea (4pts)
* Tiberion (11pts)

Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)

Void Spirit (2pts)

Master Ascetic Naaresh (*6pts)
* Basilisk Krea (4pts)
* Cyclops Brute (5pts)
* Bronzeback Titan (10pts)
* Molik Karn (11pts)
* Titan Gladiator (8pts)
Nihilators (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)
Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer (3pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Mortitheurge Willbreaker (2pts)

Specialists:
* Basilisk Drake (4pts)
* Cyclops Shaman (5pts)
Gatormen Posse (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Paingiver Task Master (2pts)

I did mess around with Naaresh specialists as I wanted to have Gators but apart that was the only thing.

Game 1 – Aaron Boyham

Mordikaar vs Kaeylssa in Incoming

Not again! I had to play Aaron at SmogCon and lost! Anyways his other list was Rahn so I basically have to Mordikaar as he can play into both. He also had ADR and swapped some stuff out, I figured I didn’t really need to. I lost the roll off and he went first

Turn 1, he runs everything up. On my turn I move up much more cautiously and run one Bloodrunner who gets blasted over an Assassin killing her. I then Hollow my Nihilators.

Turn 2, Aaron plinks away at some of my Bloodrunners and Nihilators and moves his jacks into position for next turn, Kaelyssa Feats. I can’t really get to Kaelyssa so I contest my zone with some Bloodrunners.

Turn 3, Aaron clears the few Bloodrunners in the zone and shoots a few Nihilators. He scores 1CP. I start my chain of derps from here as I move my Cetrati and Tibbers towards his zone. I revive up some Nihilators which go into his Sentinels and jam a few Strike Force but mostly they whiff attacks. Bloodrunners kill a couple more Sentinels. I Feat to keep as much stuff alive as possible.

Turn 4, Aaron uses everything he has to clear the zone again and score another point. So at this point i’m basically fucked as I can’t reasonably keep him from dominating for two and killing my objective, good start, good job me. Nothing left I run Tibbers and a Krea up near Kaeylssa have a Drake try and spray her but it misses. One Mordikaar shot and two Essence Blasts later she’s still alive.

Turn 5, Aaron does his things. Scenario loss for me.

Durp. Game one is always the worst isn’t it…. I’ll be honest I messed up that real bad. Aaron shouldn’t have been able to scenario win for at least another two turns I should have had my Cetrati walking every turn up the board into my Zone pushing him back with Tibber stood behind not giving a damn. But I didn’t and it ended as it should have. My assassination odds weren’t great either tbh. Oh well, time to submarine.

Game 2 – Dave Thompson

Naaresh vs Xerxis2 in Two Fronts

I haven’t played Dave before and he admitted to me he this was his first tournament, ouch. But! He was running Xerxis2 with Molik & Tibbers so vs Naaresh… so this wasn’t exactly the best. Luckily for me I won the rolloff and went first.

Turn 1, I run everything up the board, Iron Flesh on the Nihilators. Dave runs up his two Savages to act as blockers with Tibbers set backwards in the middle. He keeps his own Molik off to the side with the Archidon and Xerxis2.

Turn 2, I really need to get rid of Tibbers while I can. I have my Krea shoot one of the Savages and Paralyse it. I have my Nihilators charge into both Savages getting four or five into each and manage to kill one and heavily damage the other which is finished off by my Brute. Naaresh Feats and Fate Walks, Molik charges into Tibbers and kills him in four attacks thanks to the Willbreaker and Fate Walks away. I have all my beasts and Naaresh in the Agonizer bubble. Dave is in pretty bad shape now he’s down three beats. Xerxis Feats and charges in with sprint, killing off a couple Nihilators, Molik goes in and bangs on my Bronzeback but can’t kill it thanks to Naaresh Feat. Archidon goes and pecks at another Nihilator and sprints away. Dave also runs and charges with a load of PGBH to try and jam me.

Turn 3, my Gladiator moves up and kills his Molik with the help of some Nihilators. I can’t get to his Archidon or Gladiator due to PGBH so spend my turn clearing them out. Dave has his Gladiator and Xerxis kill more Nihilators and my Gladiator he also takes out my Objective to score 1CP.

Turn 4, I kill off his Gladiator and Archidon with my beasts. Dave goes for one last charge with Xerxis killing a few Nihilators and hurting my Bronzeback.

Turn 5, Xerxis2 dies. Assassination victory.

I think the biggest part of this game was winning the roll to go first so I was able to hold him off with my own Molik bullet and then Iron Flesh Nihilators. Otherwise i’d have to deal with Tibbers and Molik going in at the same time and most likely killing one of my heavies.

Game 3 – Anthony Shaw

Mordikaar vs Strakhov in Outflank

I’d actually played the exact same matchup with Anthony the week before as he’s recently moved to Bristol. That time I got rekt as my Bronzeback decided to fluff all three initials on a Iron Fang and then have a Bear tough twice, basically me spending 10pts to kill one Bear and one Iron Fang, wonderful. Revenge time! We’re both ADR and I opted for some Incindiarii and Despoiler instead of Tibbers Bloodrunners. Anthony won the roll off and went first.

Turn 1, Anthony runs his army up with Superiority on Torch and Sentry on a Mortar Crew. I don’t think he can get to me just yet so I have my army also run up this with my Cetrati in the middle so I don’t mess up like game 1.

Turn 2, Anthony runs up some of his Kommandoes so they explode onto my Cetrati and set them on fire. His Widowmakers fire some shots and kill a couple Nihilators. Black Dragons go into the right zone and his Kayazy run to the left side with Torch. As Anthony has commited to the left zone I have my Cetrati wander over and Shield Wall poking Kommandos as I go along. Incindiarii fire shots into the Black Dragons and I revive some Nihilators to help me clear them out as Anthony forgot to mini-feat. Mordikaar pops Feat. I make a small mistake and have my kill my original Despoiler target so the spawned Void can’t get to Gorman, so it runs and engages him but they pass Abomination checks. My Agonizer goes behind my Cetrati and stops Torch from getting any Focus.

Turn 3, Anthony has Strakov kill the void and sprint away. His Kayazy charge into the Cetrati and Agonizer killing one Cetrati but failing on the Aggy. In the other zone Anthony refrains from attacking Nihilators as i’ll end up reviving them. Gorman blinds four Cetrati but two of them burn to death so I can revive them unoiled, derp. Left zone my Aggy cries no Focus again, my Drake and Cetrati clear out more Kayazy. I manage to clear the right zone of Widowmakers and Black Dragons with the Nihilators and Incindiarii and score 1CP. Despoiler makes another void which charges and explodes a Kayazy.

Turn 4, Anthony can’t get anything in to contest the right zone but finally kills the Agonizer and some Cetrati. On my turn I get Mordikaar into the right zone taking me up to 4CP and kill some things.

Turn 5, Anthony kills some models and I win on scenario.

This rematch went a lot better! Swapping out to the Incindiarii and Despoiler helped loads. While the Despoiler itself didn’t do much the Void Spirits were amazing. The Agonizer basically won me the entire left zone with two turns of no Focus on Torch so he can’t even kill my Cetrati.

Game 4 – William Emery

Naaresh vs pBorka in Destruction

Wow, another game 4 vs Will and pBorka. The last time I played Naaresh into Borka it was the worst thing ever, now I have to relive it. I won the dice roll and went first. Using ADR I get the Gators in and take out the Nihilators and TyCom.

Turn 1, I run everything up. Iron Flesh on the Gators. Will also runs his army up with Iron Flesh on his Fennblades.

Turn 2, I have my Gators walk up, Dirge and whiff attacks onto Fennblades. I have my Brute walk up to more Fenns and manage to kill one, just one… derp. Wills turn he has vengeance but it all whiffs onto Def16 Gators or doesn’t hurt my Brute. Will walks up with Borka and uses Mosh Pit. His Fenns charge into my Gators and Brute but most miss and they can’t be knocked down. When he managed to hit the Brute I made him reroll it…. Warders also go in but the same happens.

Turn 3, things are getting messy so I Feat. Molik moves up and kills 3 wards the other two toughing. Bronzeback gets Trainwreck and Puppet Strings and charges into a Fenn, beating his way to Wills Mauler and killing it in three hits. Gators clean up some more Fenns. Will hurts Molik a bit with his two Warders. My gators are still holding up the remaining Fenns and other unit of Warders but he does take out my objective. Borka beats up the Bronzeback a bit.

Turn 4, i’ve screwed my Fury management as I forgot to dump four fury from Naaresh as he had NOTHING ELSE TO DO, so useless. Bronzeback frenzies and punches Borka a bit, so does molik but he fluffs it. I get rid of the warders by Molik and my Gators keep holding up the left. Will manages to get to my Task Master and he finishes off the Bronzeback.

Turn 5, I kill the remaining Fenns but don’t touch the Warders. Will kills off my Gators.

Turn 6-end, the remaining turns aren’t worth going through so i’ll summarise. The grind continues. I have my Gladiator kill his last beast and Molik goes into Borka but he toughs twice. I end up with just a Krea and my support solos to contest until hopefully he clocks out or wins on scenario. With not much to do I randomly fire off a boosted bleed on Iron Flesh Borka which hits and kills him as he fails his tough. GG, assassination win.

Wow. Well I killed pBorka with a Bleed from Naaresh… achivement unlocked? Not much to say other than the mess I made with Fury cost me basically a turn.

Conclusions…

Finished 3-1 so happy overall, despite the megafail at the start. On to casters…

Naaresh sucks. Fin~

Enjoying Mordikaar some more now, starting to see improvements as I get more time with him. Still don’t enjoy his type of grind but at least I can appreciate what he gives, definitely a Warlock that rewards time and experience. As long as you don’t forget that scenarios are a thing.
